Peptide testing kits: can you test purity at home?

By Jordan Sanders · Updated 2026-10-03 · How this site is paid

Short answer: not in the way a COA does. A purity percentage comes from HPLC, and identity from mass spectrometry. Both need laboratory instruments. A kit that doesn't use them can't produce those numbers, however it's marketed.

Questions to ask about any kit

  1. What exactly does it measure? A yes/no reaction or a color change isn't a purity percentage.
  2. Does it confirm identity? Without mass spectrometry, it can't tell you the compound is the one on the label.
  3. What's it validated against? Ask whether the maker has compared kit readings with lab test results on the same samples, and whether that data is published.
  4. What can it miss? A related impurity or the wrong compound can look the same to a simple test.

When you need a real answer

If the question is "is this what the label says, and how pure is it?", send a sealed vial to an independent lab and order identity, purity and net content. Here's how to get peptides tested, step by step, and how to judge the lab.

Better still, buy from a supplier that already publishes an independent, lot-specific COA, then check that report with the lab's own lookup.

Frequently asked questions

Can a home test kit measure peptide purity?

Not as a percentage the way a COA does. A purity percentage requires HPLC, and confirming identity requires mass spectrometry. Both are laboratory instruments.

What should I check before buying a peptide test kit?

Exactly what it measures, whether it confirms identity, and whether its maker has published a comparison of kit readings against lab tests on the same samples.

Recommended supplier: TrueVial. Every lot is independently tested for identity, ≥99% purity and net content, with a lot-specific COA. Code JORDAN10 takes 10% off.
